Frozen Shoulder
I visited Dr. Michals with Frozen Shoulders, also known as Adhesive Capsulitis, which was exhibited through stiffness and pain in both shoulders. My range of motion was greatly limited where I could not perform daily activities such as shampooing or brushing my hair without extreme pain. I had difficulty putting shirts on or reaching back to put my arms in to sweater sleeves. The pain seemed to worsen at night and my sleep patterns were disrupted. I had experienced these symptoms which gradually worsened over a period of about 14 months. I tried arthritis medication with no relief and I visited my medical doctor who recommended some exercises. I had visited chiropractors in the past with great success so when I got a call from Dr. Michals’ office offering a free consultation I thought it was very timely and it was appropriate for me to visit a chiropractor.
During my consultation, Dr. Michals took x-rays of my neck and spine and both were in pretty bad shape. He checked my range of motion in my shoulders by having me lift my arms as far as possible and then he aslo tried moving them as well. At the time, my right shoulder was worse then my left but that soon changed with my left shoulder becoming just as bad as my right. Dr. Michals recommended that I come in three times a week or more if I felt I needed to. He suggested that he do spinal, neck and shoulder manipulations and have me do some exercises along with icing of my shoulders. As a result of his treatments and the exercises, the pain has subsided substantially and I was gradually able to increase my range of motion in my shoulders. I am sleeping without pain now and am able to do daily routine tasks such as brushing my hair and putting on shirts without assistance. I can grasp my hands behind my back which I wasn’t able to do before and I hope to get back in to yoga, swimming and weight lifting again soon. After being so active the majority of my life, it had been depressing to suddenly be so crippled up with pain and lack of motion.
I would highly recommend Dr. John Michals to anyone in the Carlsbad or Oceanside are who is in need of chiropractic care. Especially given that the results were so fast and substantial. It feels great to be living without the pain and to have the freedom of movement back again.
